League Cup Final 2013 - v Hearts
Being a St Mirren supporter, bathing in success at the National Stadium (Hampden Park), does not exactly come often .... actually, roughly every 30 years approx. Anyway for the first time in the history of the club, we won the trophy on the 17th March 2013, in a 3-2 win against Hearts. Below is a selection of photos taken before, during and after the game.
For the record, home town Saints supporter, Stephen Thomson, scored a dream goal in the final, in front of the 17000 strong St Mirren Support. This was the second goal of the game and came just 53 seconds after the start of the second half, which ended 1-1 with on loan Rio Ave striker Esmael Concalves, netting the equaliser (against the run of play). Another on loan player from Newcastle Utd, Conor Newton, gave the Saints a 3-1 cushion, with 20 minutes remaining. However in true St Mirren style, we conceded a goal with 5 minutes plus injury time to go, then spent that time in total, pant squeaking, nail biting turmoil. Eventually the ref's whistle blew to end our trauma and bring about the best celebration the town has seen since 1987, when we won the Scottish Cup.
There are no photos from the night-time town celebration, as I choose to soak up the atmosphere and leave the camera behind.
