Boggy Creek
_ Well, this was the authentic taste of real banjo country
.... we had decided to book a ride on the everglades to go real 'gator hunting
on an airboat. To say it was an let down
was an understatement. First of all the
"Creek" was about 50 miles from Orlando and no way of getting there,
other than by taxi, which was hugely expensive, when we arrived there was a
little hut at the edge of the creek. As
I entered, the door squeaked and a redneck in checked shirt looked up and said "Cans a 'elp ya boay"
.... to which I gulped and squeaked ... "Yes, two for a ride in the boat
please!!!"
Anyway the ride was fun, doing the odd 360 degree turn and getting mouthfuls of dragonflies, keeping mine shut is no easy task, however we only found one alligator and it was so small, I have no idea how he managed to spot it amongst the greenery ... it is in one of the photos below, if you really strain you eyes you might just see it.
After we got back I went to the Hilton's own man made pool and saw a bigger alligator just sitting under the wooden pier, all that expense and travel to see something I could have walked 20 metres, with a drink in my hand to see, for nothing! Oh well, it was something different to try and after all that is what Orlando is all about.
